MAKHNO Studio‘s latest project, VRODA Clinic & Spa, located in Limassol, Cyprus, redefines healthcare design by creating an immersive experience of art, beauty, and wellness. Situated in the heart of the Mediterranean, this innovative project transcends traditional clinical aesthetics, offering a unique space where nature seamlessly blends with contemporary design.
VRODA’s architecture prioritizes organic forms, natural materials, and bespoke artistic elements, successfully transforming the typical medical facility into a calming, art gallery-like environment. This project showcases a new approach to clinic and spa design, focusing on patient well-being through artistic and natural integration.
Instead of the stark rectangular forms typically associated with hospitals, VRODA embraces smooth, rounded lines and shapes, creating a sense of flow and tranquility. Natural references permeate the design, from the decor and lighting to the overall spatial organization.
Each zone within the two-story clinic boasts a unique conceptual identity, yet all contribute to the overarching harmony of the space. Seamless transitions between these zones, facilitated by the organic forms of walls, ceilings, and furniture, enhance the visitor’s experience.
The reception area serves as a minimalist introduction, where the ceiling seamlessly merges into the walls and floor, creating a streamlined landscape. Large, sun-shaped lamps adorned with dried flower inlays act as central focal points, immediately establishing the clinic’s connection to nature.
The corridors, far from being conventional clinical hallways, feature wavy walls, curved ceilings, and integrated floor lighting, creating a futuristic yet inviting atmosphere. Handcrafted ceramic mirrors from Serhii Makhno’s ZEMLYA collection and unique art objects further enhance these transitional spaces.
A dedicated relaxation area provides a comfortable space for visitors to unwind after procedures, offering soft furniture, natural colors, and gentle lighting. Each treatment room, while possessing its own distinct ambiance, adheres to the clinic’s core design principles: smooth forms, panoramic windows offering natural light, sun-like ceiling lamps, and the inclusion of live plants and ikebana arrangements.
The spa zone, located on the lower level, immerses visitors in an aquatic ecosystem, complete with hammams, saunas, Jacuzzis, and relaxation rooms. A highlight of this zone is the tropical shower, featuring an intelligent system that responds to voice commands or AI algorithms to customize light color and water intensity.
Even the laboratory, often a purely functional space, reflects the clinic’s overall design aesthetic, incorporating smooth lines, minimalist aesthetics, and biophilic design. The VIP zone offers an exclusive experience, combining spa and clinical treatments in a private setting, featuring handmade ceramic lamps like the QUADROLAMP and the iconic KHMARA art lamp.
The underground café, designed as a modernized cave with abundant plant life and signature MAKHNO Studio lamps, provides a unique dining experience. An adjacent sunken terrace offers a connection to the outdoors, even while underground.
The massage rooms further develop the cave theme, using textured plaster to replicate natural rock formations, complemented by soft lighting and rounded shapes. Other spa experiences include an aroma room, a cooling zone, a hot tub beneath a sun-shaped lamp, a sauna, a snow room, a hay room, a room with alpine herbs, a Charcot shower, and a hammam.
VRODA CLINIC & SPA is more than just a medical facility; it is a holistic environment where art, beauty, and wellness intertwine. Every detail, from the textures to the lighting, has been carefully considered to evoke tranquility and balance, promoting the idea that beauty and health are intrinsically linked.
