In the bustling cityscape of Taipei, Taiwan, the Wand Residence by 2BOOKS Design stands as a testament to creative spatial design and innovative use of materials. Nestled in a small apartment with a modest floor area of just 33 square meters, this unique residence showcases the immense potential that can be unlocked in even the most confined spaces.
One of the primary challenges encountered by 2BOOKS Design was the elongated shape of the apartment, which also boasted two varying levels of elevation. This unique layout led to two distinct ceiling heights, potentially creating a feeling of confinement.
To address this issue, the design team devised an ingenious solution: they suspended the bedroom in the area with the higher ceiling. This innovative approach not only eliminated any horizontal visual barriers but also allowed an abundance of natural light to flood the space. The outcome was a bedroom that seemed to float gracefully above the rest of the living area, fostering an airy and ethereal ambiance.
To further enhance the visual openness and separation of the different functional areas, a striking galvanized steel staircase was incorporated into the design. This staircase not only fulfilled its practical role of linking the various levels but also functioned as a transparent barrier, gently delineating the living room from the dining room and kitchen.
The choice of galvanized steel infused the space with an industrial charm, elevating the overall aesthetic. This element contributed significantly to the modern and contemporary ambiance, creating a harmonious blend of style and functionality throughout the area.
The 2BOOKS Design team focused on achieving impeccable spatial design while also being meticulous about the materials chosen for the residence. They opted for earthy mineral coatings for the flooring, which created a striking contrast against the pristine white walls. This selection not only emphasized the varying elevations throughout the different areas but also infused the interior with a gentle warmth.
The rugged texture of the mineral coatings paired with the smoothness of the white walls established a captivating juxtaposition. This thoughtful combination ultimately elevated the overall visual appeal of the space, making it both inviting and aesthetically pleasing.
In summary, the Wand Residence is a prime example of innovative design solutions and creativity in maximizing limited spaces. By hanging the bedroom in the area with a higher ceiling, utilizing a galvanized steel staircase for separation and transparency, and selecting contrasting materials for the flooring, 2BOOKS Design has successfully transformed a small apartment into a visually open and welcoming home.
