The G&S Apartment, a recent project by Curitiba-based MOCA Arquitetura, is a harmonious blend of Brazilian warmth and contemporary design. The architects were tasked with creating an integrated, functional space that reflects the unique personalities of its inhabitants, Gabriela Zukeram and Stefano Mascarello.
In this project, the team at Moca Arquitetura skillfully maintained the apartment’s essential characteristics, featuring elegant hardwood flooring and soft, neutral walls. The standout elements include exquisite marble finishes adorning both the shelves and baseboards, while the furniture introduces a touch of nature with woven cane backrests and seats crafted from braided kraft paper cord.
The design of the space beautifully mirrors the couple’s deep appreciation for art. Gabriela, a content creator and co-founder of Two Lost Kids, channels her creativity into an audiovisual project known for its playful, irreverent, and nostalgic style, producing captivating videos for renowned brands like Google and Adidas. Meanwhile, Stefano, an Italian enthusiast of Brazilian culture, curates a collection of art pieces from emerging artists in Paraná, the southern Brazilian state where Gabriela was born.
“While we aimed for a design that wasn’t as bold as the signature style of Two Lost Kids, it was crucial to reflect both of their personalities,” architects Katia Azevedo and Ana Sikorski explain. “Our vision was to celebrate Brazilian culture, infusing warmth into the space while ensuring a harmonious balance and restraint in the selection of colors and objects.”
The kitchen stands out as a remarkable fusion of styles and personal preferences. It retains the same neutral palette that characterizes the rest of the apartment, yet it introduces a playful and lively element through the selection of floor tiles and the vibrant orange breeze blocks, known as cobogó. This combination infuses the space with energy, making it a delightful area to gather and create.
In a striking contrast, the kitchen features sleek stainless steel countertops, which not only enhance the aesthetic but also provide a practical surface for everyday tasks. This choice ensures that daily life in the kitchen is both efficient and enjoyable, allowing for a seamless cooking experience that caters to both functionality and style.
An intriguing aspect of this design is the subtle division of spaces, cleverly achieved through the arrangement of furniture. This thoughtful approach maintains an airy atmosphere throughout the apartment while ensuring that the various areas remain interconnected. The final flourish comes from the inclusion of personal items and artwork, which transform the design into a warm and inviting home.
