Nestled among the trees on Madrid’s Calle Alberto Alcocer, this 166 m2 property, recently revitalized by local practice De la Villa Studio, is adorned with an Art Nouveau frame that seems to embrace it with warmth and care. However, this charming abode has undergone a remarkable transformation. Prior to the renovation, the space resembled an office, plagued by excessive compartmentalization that stifled both light and openness. The creatives describe it as having “a dark, broken corridor stretching along the central axis of the house,” which detracted from its potential.

The renovation aimed to unify the various rooms, fostering an open environment where the owners could gather and converse freely. Central to this vision was the crucial element of light. The designers sought to eliminate corridors, recesses, and unexpected cuts, allowing sunlight to flow unimpeded through the space, breathing life into every corner. Their innovative approach not only enhanced the brightness but also created a sense of continuity throughout the home.

With a focus on sustainability, the team skillfully reimagined old elements, integrating fixtures and furnishings in a contemporary manner. These pieces harmoniously coexist with custom-made items, thoughtfully distributed across the various rooms. The living room stands out as the heart of the home, envisioned as a private square that invites contemplation on the interplay of materials. Natural stone takes center stage, imparting an elegant simplicity that connects the interior to the serene surroundings of this quiet Madrid enclave, complemented by the warm tones of natural oak wood flooring.

A distinctive walkway, crafted from a variety of forms, links each space within the home, accentuating the impressive ceiling heights above. Throughout this domestic landscape, doors are designed with a degree of transparency, allowing for a functional yet fluid connection between rooms. This thoughtful design not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also promotes a sense of openness and accessibility, making the home a true sanctuary in the heart of the city.

The kitchen is nestled in the heart of the home, yet it radiates warmth and brightness. Three expansive windows invite sunlight to flood the space, casting a warm glow over the travertine island that serves as a centerpiece for culinary creativity. This inviting atmosphere transforms the kitchen into a vibrant hub, where light dances and enhances the beauty of the materials.

Adjacent to the kitchen, the living room unfolds with a thoughtful arrangement of storage solutions. On one side, a sleek low module offers a subtle touch, while a taller unit on the opposite side cleverly conceals the television and features a bar cabinet adorned with a mirrored back. This design not only maximizes functionality but also adds a layer of sophistication to the living area, creating a seamless flow between spaces.

As we move through the hallway, we are led to the more private quarters of the home. Here, full-height oak paneling creates a sense of warmth and continuity, guiding us to each of the three bedrooms. This intimate area is a retreat, where comfort meets style, providing a serene escape from the bustling common areas.

The bathrooms, adorned in luxurious marble and micro-cement with clay accents, exude elegance and tranquility. Large mirrors amplify the natural light, enhancing the overall ambiance. The design presents a neutral backdrop, characterized by a clear architectural language, while contemporary furnishings add a touch of modern flair. Color weaves through the home, with a palette ranging from rich browns and greens to soft pinks and oranges, creating a visual thread that ties the entire space together.
